Yes, here you can understand the importance of knowing social media mentions and get some reliable sources to track the social media places where you have been talked out.

Any business can thrive on the web if it takes the benefits offered by social media. Yes, people use social media to connect with their preferred brands.

It wouldn’t be essential for a business to be present on each social platform rather it can choose the suitable ones to maximize the potential and reach the target audience to save time and investment.

On the other hand, every business brand wants to have a good volume of social media mentions in the form of Facebook Like & Share, Retweets, Repins, Linkedin share, Google Plus +1 & Reshare and so on.

To get positive mentions, they invest their smart work in targeting the exact customers, organizing the content, adding eye-catching images, showing the personality to stand unique and stimulating the audience to give replies to the questions related to their product/service.

However, how do they know where they were mentioned? How to find the social media mentions are a kind of praise or criticism?

Even though, it is more likely to check the remarks through the notification feature at every social network, some businesses are keen interested to check all the social media mentions at one place for deeper level of monitoring & measurement and to arrange an efficient social media marketing strategy with it.

Before checking the tools to monitor social mentions, let me tell you the importance of social media mention!

Why Social Media Mentions Are Important?

The metrics offered by the mentions can measure your fame in social media, and it is increasingly important to convert your site visitors into customers.

Another essential reason to find your brand mentions is that you can reward the positive remarks and consider the negative feedback as an excellent opportunity to improve your business brand.

Besides, you may use the inspiring social mentions as testimonials that would act as a social proof in your marketing strategy.

Furthermore, if you have a business update, you could sense the feel of your audience about your latest news and collect and use social mentions for the upcoming content generation.

Out of all, your self-esteem will be boosted while reading the good things being said. Do you agree with me?

Now, How to create more social media mentions is a million dollar question! Let me share my knowledge on increasing the talks about you/your business on social networks.

How To Increase Social Media Mentions?

I can’t assure that the following strategies will bring you up in social media, but they can improve the chances of getting more social media mentions.

1. Stay focused to get exact social media followers.

2. Craft helpful content with relevant visuals that can generate comments.

3. Be different by displaying your character.

4. Let your humor play a part but avoid discussing sensitive topics.

5. Inspire your audience to talk about your brand through call-to-action.

6. Read the mentions correctly and respond in kind.

7. Acknowledge negative mentions and offer the perfect solution for them.

3 Best Tools to Track Social Media Mentions

Check the below tools that would help you to track your brand mentions across social media.

1. Mention

I’ve been using the free version of this outstanding tool to gather my social mentions through the mail. If you connect the social accounts to your alerts, you may react to them without leaving the application. In 2013, Buffer and Mention announced a new partnership to check and respond to the brand mentions in a better way.

It is possible to get a snapshot of your mentions by source, language and over a particular period by exporting them to PDF, CSV, XLS, and TSV. No matter you’re on the devices like Android, iOS, Mac or Windows PC, you can access Mention from anywhere.

You’ll get the notification from Mention through the registered email. In the below image, you can see some mentions of MyMagicFundas. I’ve marked a mention of MMF by Atish Ranjan in a screenshot for his updated post.

If you use Chrome browser, you may install the Mention Chrome Extension.

If you want the best alternative for Mention tool, I would recommend using Sprout Social, an excellent social media management tool where you can create the email alert to get the social media mentions.

2. Social Mention

Social mention is a tool that tracks and measures what people are saying about your brand in Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, Digg, etc. Offering point-in-time social media search and analysis is its best feature, and you may set to receive the daily mentions from here. You may also grab the trending news through this real-time social media search tool.

3. Social Searcher

Social searcher is a free social media search engine that allows you to find and save social mentions. You can set up email alerts in this social mention search tool and don’t need to log in to get information. This fantastic tool has been featured on the popular blogs like Forbes, Entrepreneur, Social Media Examiner, etc.

Tools To Track Brand Mention On The Web

Not only on social media, but there also exist some exceptional online tools to watch the brand mention on the internet. They are

  • Google Alerts – You may discover the areas where you’ve been mentioned on the web through email alerts.
  • TalkWalker – It is an unusual source to find mentions specifically on news, blogs and discussions.
  • Moz Tool – This fresh web explorer tool would allow you to observe the latest mentions.

For WordPress Users

Are you WordPress user who would like to track the tweets, likes, pins and +1s (where you have been talked about) from your WordPress dashboard? Here is a plugin for you to monitor social media mentions! It is “Social Metrics Pro”, a premium plugin!

With this plugin, you can look at the social media places where you have been mentioned. It is being used by the influential internet marketers and bloggers for better conversions and to get more social signals. You can choose the social networks of your choice that you wish to track.

Final Words

If you’re a business who’re putting tons of efforts for On-page SEO and building backlinks, you may not getting good results in search engines for your business website/blog. This may be due to your non-appearance on top social networks as Google and other search engines are tracking media mentions and social signals.

“The more you have been mentioned on social media by your followers and prominent persons, the more you will be considered as authoritative by the search engines and you would get better results for your business”

Keeping your business on social media would help you publically display that your business holds an excellent customer service as a priority. The strategic monitoring of social mention would let you uncover the opportunities to engage with customers and provide better service to them.

Unlike in real life, you can monitor the social media for specific mentions in real-time with the tools that I’ve listed above. I hope that you’ve recognized the importance of tracking social media mentions and identified some helpful tools to track them.

What do you think about this post? Will it help you to stay on the top of the social mentions? Do you monitor your social media mentions? Which tools are you using to track mentions on social networks and how do you respond to them?

I might have missed listing some helpful brand mention-monitoring tool, so let me know if you aware of any such tools through the comment section.

  1. Hi Nirmala,

Always coming up with different and great topics. Social Media and Search Engine plays vital role in promoting our business. There is no use at all, just by sharing the content to social media’s. Readers have to see, they have to accept your business, they have to share it to others. To get the prompt result, as a business person, they have to watch their social media mentions.

Actually am giving training for Blogging, Search Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, Social Media Optimization, Social Media Marketing, Affiliate Marketing etc in Madurai by the business name RAAM IT Solutions, most of the trained students from me, asking the same question, “Sir, daily am sharing my content to Facebook, Google+, Twitter etc… but i can’t get more views and no one is sharing my post” like that. I will surely prefer this post to my students to read.

Anyway thanks for sharing this awesome and easily understanding post. Thumbs Up…

I use TalkWalker and Google alerts, but will have to check out a few of the other ones you mentioned. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Akaahan Terungwa

    Hi Nirmala,

It’s a pleasure connecting with you. How are you?

Your properly crafted title drew me in…social media, according to my analytics reports, is my poorest source of traffic. The pie chart is very funny when the percentage of traffic emanating from social media sites is put into visual perspective 🙂 So, you see, I came here to learn a thing or two.

    And I did!

All the tools you’ve mentioned are completely new to me – except of course, Google Alerts. However, I’ve already started making moves to deploy most of your suggestions. Also, I found your tips on engaging productively on social media invaluable.

It seems I’ll be visiting much more frequently 🙂

Do enjoy the day – and don’t forget to make it great!

    Akaahan Terungwa

    1. Nirmala Santhakumar

      Hi Akaahan,

Welcome to my blog and thanks for your kind praising words. I always prefer to display some uncovered (by others) data and thus I crafted this post.

We have to get referral traffic to stay safe and thus I would suggest you to take part in the social communities.

Cheers that you’ve learned some new stuff through my post, keep coming 🙂

Thanks in advance for your upcoming visits and you have a great day.

  12. The importance of social mention for blogging success cannot be overemphasized. At least, from the details shared in this post one will say that social media mention helps to boost brand image.

Personally, I have been using Mention as tool for social media mentions. It has worked well for me over the months. I support that businesses explore it to improved engagements!

I left the above comment in kingged.com as well

  13. Hey nirmala mam. Thanks for yet another cool update.,Personally, I have been using Mention as tool for social media mentions. It has worked well for me over the months. I support that businesses explore it to improved engagements and even I think you’re spot on, and that knowing where we’re mentioned is very important. My fave is Mention.net, but hadn’t noticed they struck up a partnership with Buffer, cool.. !!!!

  14. Hello Nirmala Mam,
At first I’m feeling good to be here at MMF. You mentioned three tools above. These tools definately gonna help for Twitter marketting. Is Mention and Social Seracher compaitable with FB or just Twitter like Social Mention?

    1. Nirmala Santhakumar

      Hi Pallab,

Sorry for replying late and thanks for your visit. Glad you like these helpful tools to track your mentions. Yes, both are awesome in finding our mentions on the web. Just give a try to use the both and let me know your experience with these tools.

      Have a good day!

  15. I recommend Google Alerts and Social Mention. These are free tools for your social media listening or monitoring your social mentions.

Google Alerts, this tool doesn’t capture everything, however it good, automated, entry-level way to get some feedback about any kind of search query emailed to you.

While the latter, you’ll see results from different social media platforms and you can determine if the sentiment is positive or negative.

  16. Good tools Nirmala!

I didnt know about half of those! I’ve been more and more into tracking my social media stats recently due to certain seo experiments im running so these will come in handy. 🙂

    1. Nirmala Santhakumar

That’s great Dennis! My best wishes for your SEO experiments 🙂

I always take inspiration with your comment and visit, thanks a lot.

      Have a relaxed weekend!

  17. Hey Nirmala,

I had to bookmark this. I actually started just using mentions this year and what a big difference it made for me and my blog.

In my own experience, for this year, not only am I getting noticed by the people within my inner circle of blogging friends, but also their audience, and their audience, and their audience and so on….

I signed up with mentions, but I never really put too much attention to it. But one tool that I find interesting that you mentioned is Social Metrics Pro. I figure it would be a great tool for me since it’s on my blog and I can check it every time I go on it. It does help to measure this metric to see how you can improve on traffic.

Thanks for sharing Nirmala! I hope you have a great week!

I found your post on kingged.com under Social Media category

  21. Great idea for a post topic, Nirmala!

It has never even occurred to me hunt down social media mentions… so I’m going to check out some of those tools you mentioned. Thanks!

    1. Nirmala Santhakumar

Thanks for your great appreciation, Brent.

I suggest you to track the social mentions to reap the benefits that I’ve listed in the post.

Good to know that you’re going to look the details of the tools which I’ve listed here.

Are you on JustRetweet, Brent? If not, please go there to get some exposure and new readers.

  22. Great article! You pretty much covered the essentials regarding the importance of tracking down social media mentions and the tools to use in order to find them. I honestly can say that I haven’t heard of Social Searcher before and I’m surprised that Topsy wasn’t featured in the list of tools, which is similar to Social Mention. Nonetheless, informative post you have here.

    1. Nirmala Santhakumar

      Hey Chris!

Your arrival made my day :D, thanks!

Yes, it is good to understand the benefits of tracking mentions and thus I consolidated some relevant points.

Social searcher is a good tool and you don’t even register over there to see your mentions.

Yeah, I agree with your idea! I missed to add Topsy here but I aware of that social tool.

I feel good with your kind appreciation, have a good day ahead.

  23. Hi Nirmala,

Nice catchy Blog post title. Drew me in to read the post content.

I definitely belong to that category of Bloggers who vexes about – How do I see my mentions on social media? – and how do I respond to the people who mentioned me on their social streams?

It’s always great to thank anyone who mentioned you or their social streams, while its great manners it’s terrific for engagement and moving traffic back to your site.

I completely agree with you when you say that it’s not necessary for brands to be on all social streams. That kind of indicates the brands are not really clear where their target audience hangs out to engage with them.

That’s a social strategy normally recommended by an amateur social strategist, someone who is learning the ropes.

It’s best to know which social streams your preferred customers hang out on and engage with them there using tried and tested inbound marketing techniques that work today.

The metrics offered by the mentions can measure your fame in social media, and it is increasingly important to convert your site visitors into customers.

    How very true indeed.

Using social media interactions as testimonials is great way to repurpose the hard work put into getting positive social media interactions. Social interactions remain visible for really short periods of time before they move downwards off the reader’s screens. A testimonial stays on.

Loved the tools you’ve mentioned. You’ve explained the value that each tool brings to a brand succinctly and beautifully.

BTW, you do have some awesome engagement on this Blog post. Terrific, I’m actually a tad envious.

Thanks for sharing this information, Nirmala.

I came to your Blog site via a link on Kingged.com

  24. I really like the way you have broken down why social media mentions are important and how you can track them. It can be a drag going to every social media you have looking for mentions, especially when you get so many notifications for so many different things that have nothing to do with your mentions. I think reaching back out to people who mention you is important, and you can build valuable relationships. This was a great post and I will have to look more into the places youve mentioned I can congregate my mentions. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Nirmala Santhakumar

      Hi Lawrence,

You’ve got my point! Yeah, getting back to the people who mentioned us would create a good relationship with them. In today’s trend, relationship building is important than link building in blogging.

Nice to know that you’re gonna check the tools that I’ve listed here to find your mentions on the web. Thanks for your comment, have a great day ahead.
